The Lodge at Smoky Cove

Nestled on a mountaintop in western North Carolina you will find the Lodge at Smoky Cove. The Lodge was originally built in 1940 by Samuel H. Kress, the owner and founder of the Kress five and dime stores. Mr. Kress built the home to host his family and later as a training center for his staff.

Kress was and still is known for his admiration of European and Art Deco styles of architecture. The massive beams and the lumber were milled right here on the mountain. Mr. Kress then transported some of his sought-after lumber to New York City where he traded it for Italian cut stone. This is the beautiful stonework that we enjoy today on the patio and the front of the building. All of the floors and the tongue and groove walls are original construction as is the 1940’s vintage tile in all of the bathrooms.

It was such a treat to melt into deep relaxation surrounded by the peace of the mountains. This year, we’re thrilled to offer that same experience again! You can add a massage to your retreat for $100, and our amazing host, Lisa, will personally work with you to schedule your session so it fits perfectly into your flow. Last year, we hosted our very first yoga retreat in the serene Blue Ridge Mountains—and it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived at the cozy lodge, there was a deep sense of peace that only the mountains can bring. We shared endless laughter, savored nourishing, delicious meals, and moved through a variety of yoga practices and workshops. Each day brought new moments of connection, from quiet mornings overlooking the misty hills to joyful outings in the charming surrounding towns. It was a heart-expanding experience, and we truly can’t wait to return. We hope you’ll join us next time for another unforgettable adventure.
